4 tips to boost your confidence in your purpose at work

Hard fact: our attitudes towards anything are totally up to us. Yes, our immediate responses can be impacted by outside influences and out-of-our-control circumstances. But, each day, we have the power to choose how we perceive the situations in front of us. That includes our purpose at work.

Today, we’re sharing four tips to boost your confidence in your purpose. Hint: it takes perspective.

Created to Work

Many of us work to pay for essential needs like housing, clothing and food. But, what if we were also created to work to give more to others?

Tip #1: Remember that you are called to work.

“Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.”

We have all been called to work. Workplaces will look different for everyone: you could be a business owner, corporate executive or a stay-at-home parent (or all three). Those are all given jobs, and each is challenging in their own unique way. In tough seasons, remember that hard work is good and fruitful. There are reasons for why we are in the work settings we are in, including to meet basic needs such as putting food on the table.

Keep this perspective in mind to avoid chasing unrealistic dreams that you are not called to live. It will save you unnecessary heartache and stress.

Tip #2: Remember why you have been created to work.

“Let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.”

Many of us work to pay for essential needs like housing, clothing and food. But, what if we were also created to work to give more to others?

Maybe you have been gifted a high paying corporate job, so you can give more financially. Or, maybe you’ve been called to work in a non-profit to provide your gifted skills and time to someone who needs them directly.

Wherever you’re at, remember that you have also been created to work to meet needs beyond yourself.

Tip #3: Remember who you ultimately work for.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Each of us is a vessel created to spread love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in every setting we’re in, even at work.

By exhibiting these fruits often in our workplace on behalf of someone who is much bigger than ourselves, we will be rewarded. We will experience more freedom and joy simply by offering more kindness and generosity towards another. Doesn’t that sound nice?

Wherever you’re at, don’t forget to remember who you ultimately work for.

Tip #4: Believe that there is a season for every work step you take.

“For everything there is a season. A time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.”

Each of our steps were accounted for before we were born. When we acknowledge that there is a season for everything and we are uniquely positioned to live out these perfectly designed moments, we are able to find more contentment and gratefulness in our work journey.

A grateful heart leads to more perspective and more perspective leads to a grateful heart.
